The body of Nathaniel Watters, 41, was found Saturday evening in the Nitinat Lake area, his family said in a social media post.
Central Saanich police confirmed on Sunday afternoon that Watters’ body had been found.
RCMP and the B.C. Coroners Service are investigating the death.
“Thank you all so much for sharing Nathaniel’s information and searching for him throughout this week, it was incredible and heartwarming to see so many people spend so much of their time to help us find him. Having such a strong community around us makes this very difficult time a bit easier,” the family’s message said.
Watters was last seen in the Keating area of Central Saanich on the afternoon of July 8.
On Thursday, Central Saanich police said items believed to belong to Watters had been located by family members in the Fairy Creek area near Port Renfrew.
“Because the area the items were located in is so large and complex, search and rescue are unable to be deployed at this time,” Const. Tristan Gentile said Thursday.
An RCMP helicopter was brought in to search the location.
