No one was injured Sunday night when fire destroyed a motor home and damaged a motel unit at the Riverside Resort in Qualicum Beach.
Both were empty at the time.
The Dashwood Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the blaze with assistance from Qualicum, Coombs, Bow Horn Bay, Parksville and Errington firefighters.
The incident was reported about 9:20 p.m. as a trailer fire in the RV park, but crews were told en route that there was also a structure fire, said Dashwood Deputy Chief Nathan Pocock.
“The main resort building was also involved,” he said.
The initial fire was next to the building and spread to an exterior wall before getting into the attic, Pocock said.
Crews had to enter the unit to put the fire out.
The motor home was destroyed by the time crews arrived and fire damage was contained to the one motel unit. An adjacent unit has some water damage.
None of the other trailers was damaged by fire, Pocock said.
