One person was airlifted to hospital in critical condition after being pulled from a burning RV in Nanaimo on Friday morning.
B.C. Emergency Health Services said it received a call shortly after 8 a.m. about a fire involving a trailer on Pine Street.
Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment to one person, who was taken by air ambulance to hospital in critical condition, said Brian Twaites, a paramedic public information officer, in a statement.
Nanaimo Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire in the 600-block of Pine Street with four engines and one truck, according to its list of incidents online. The fire department did not respond to an interview request.
The RV burst into flames and spread to a nearby utility pole, causing a power box to explode and flames to approach a neighbouring home, according to CHEK News.
Capt. Jody Lucas with Nanaimo Fire Rescue told CHEK that firefighters saw smoke from the fire department before they received the call.
One person was inside the RV at the time and he was pulled out by a bystander, witnesses told CHEK News.
Firefighters credited the person with saving the man’s life.
Daren Baldock, who works nearby, told CHEK all was normal when he arrived but when he looked outside shortly after, he saw a woman pulling someone out of a vehicle. He hooked up a hose to the building where he works and sprayed down the RV in an attempt to stop the flames from spreading.
