KAMLOOPS — Four days spent hungry and cold atop a B.C. Hydro pole in Peterson Creek Park means it will be a long time before Trinity the cat will be allowed out of her owner’s apartment.
“She’s grounded for life,” Clint Stooshnoff told the Kamloops Daily News Tuesday.
Hydro employees used a bucket truck to reach the little black cat, which huddled between a couple of insulators and yowled at the men.
Stooshnoff hugged himself against the wind and watched as Dave Sandulescu and apprentice Gavin Smith fixed plastic casings to the power lines to protect the cat from the 14,400 volts of electricity that flow through them.
The casings were fixed in place by a pole with a hook on it. The hook was then used to snag Trinity by the collar and lift her into the bucket.
There was a brief moment where the cat hung in midair above the dirt and scrub and kicked wildly.
Moments later, Trinity was in her owner’s arms and carried back to Stooshnoff’s nearby apartment. The two-year-old cat appeared fine.
Trinity disappeared from the apartment six days ago. Stooshnoff had no idea where she was until a neighbour stopped him on Saturday and said the cat was on the power pole.
Stooshnoff said he phoned B.C. Hydro and a crew was sent to investigate. Initially, a rescue attempt was deemed too difficult.
