The federal Earthquakes Canada agency said the temblor was 236 kilometres off Port Hardy at 3:46 p.m., while the U.S. Geological Study put it at magnitude 5.2, 205 kilometres from Port Hardy.
There were no reports of damage, and the National Tsunami Warning Centre said there was no danger of a tsunami.
The day’s other earthquakes ranged from magnitude 0.9 about 75 km west of Port Hardy to 2.1 south of Sandspit in Haida Gwaii.
