B.C. Ferries’ Queen of New Westminster is back in action after crews fixed mechanical problems that prompted a total of eight sailing cancellations on Sunday and Monday.
Spokeswoman Deborah Marshall said in an email that repairs to the vessel are complete and sea trials were successful.
The corporation cancelled two morning sailings on Monday because of continuing mechanical problems.
The ferry service announced Sunday night that it was cancelling the 6 a.m. departure from Tsawwassen and the 8 a.m. from Swartz Bay on Monday. Passengers with reservations will be refunded the reservation fee and will get on the next available sailing.
On Sunday, B.C. Ferries cancelled the noon, 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. sailings leaving Tsawwassen and the 2 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. sailings leaving Swartz Bay. In the evening, B.C. Ferries reported two-sailing waits from both Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen. It added sailings to help clear the backed traffic.
The ferry operator said an ongoing issue with the Queen of New Westminster's controllable pitch propellers forced it to scuttle the sailings.
Spirit of Vancouver Island, Spirit of British Columbia and Coastal Celebration continued to operate on the route.
