Victoria police and the B.C. Coroners Service are investigating after a body was found floating in the water about one kilometre from Ogden Point on Monday morning.
The body was discovered by a passing pilot boat about 10:15 a.m. The Victoria fire boat, with police and firefighters aboard, retrieved the body and brought it ashore.
Victoria police major crime detectives and the coroner are in the preliminary stages of the investigation, said Victoria police Const. Matt Rutherford.
Police did not say whether the deceased is a man or a woman.
“Too early to speculate on the gender of the deceased person. That will be determined through the course of the investigation,” Rutherford said.
