Courtenay schoolchild approached by man with dog

Comox Valley RCMP are investigating after a child walking to school Thursday morning was approached by a man. A man with a dog walked up to a child on Woods Avenue near Fourth Street in Courtenay about 8:45 a.m.

Comox Valley RCMP are investigating after a child walking to school Thursday morning was approached by a man.

A man with a dog walked up to a child on Woods Avenue near Fourth Street in Courtenay about 8:45 a.m. and asked if the student wanted to look at some puppies in his van.

The child responded by yelling no, running away and telling their principal.

No attempt was made to grab or harm the child, police said.

Police said the man may have been jogging in the area.

He is described as white, possibly in his mid-60s, tall and partially bald with a grey scruffy beard. He was wearing blue-turquoise shorts and a short-sleeved shirt. The dog may have been a husky.
