A crane operator working at the Belmont Market construction site was plucked from his cab about 30 metres off the ground after he had a medical issue.
B.C. Ambulance paramedics called the Langford Fire Department to the site at Jacklin Road and Jenkins Avenue about 8 a.m. Wednesday to get the operator down.
A rope rescue was considered, but a department vehicle equipped with a ladder-mounted bucket was able to reach the man.
“Luckily, it was close enough to the street, so that was the safest, best and fastest way to extricate the patient,” said Scott Davidson, Langford’s assistant fire chief.
He said Colwood firefighters also responded to the incident.
The operator was taken to hospital by paramedics. Details of his condition were not disclosed.
“He was conscious and talking when we brought him down,” Davidson said.
