A car engine fire stopped traffic on Quadra Street near Caledonia Avenue about 3 p.m. Saturday.
No one was injured and firefighters put out the flames in less than five minutes, said Victoria Fire Capt. Jim McNeill.
“A gentleman was test-driving a car for a lady, who was complaining of problems with the vehicle. It was having problems losing power,” McNeill said.
The car stopped in the southbound lane of Quadra Street, in front of the Victoria police station.
“Police came out, saw it and thought it might be exhaust. Then they noticed it was a bit more than that,” McNeill said.
Flames and smoke were concentrated in the engine compartment and did not spread to the rest of the car.
“It wasn’t huge; nonetheless, the car is written off,” McNeill said.
