Three robberies within a few hours have two RCMP units busy following up on the crimes.
North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP Cpl. Krista Hobday said it was “all hands on deck” for investigators.
The first robbery happened about 4:10 p.m. Wednesday when a man entered the Island Savings Credit Union on Duncan’s Drinkwater Road.
That was followed a short time later by a robbery at the Royal Bank on First Street in Ladysmith.
It is not known whether the two robberies are connected. Officers from the North Cowichan/Duncan and Ladysmith detachments are working on the case, along with investigators from the Island District RCMP.
The third robbery came about 8:25 p.m. at the 49th Parallel grocery store on Oak Street in Chemainus.
James Miller, 56, is charged with one count of robbery in connection with the Chemainus robbery. He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to be back in Duncan provincial court on Tuesday.
Police did not say whether weapons were involved in any of the incidents.
RCMP ask anyone with information about any of the incidents to call North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP at 250-748-5522 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
