A man who drove into a gas pump in Fairfield Thursday night was suffering a medical emergency, Victoria police say.
It was around 6 p.m. when the man went into medical distress near the corner of Fairfield Road and St. Charles Street. His passenger was able to slow the vehicle by reaching over and pulling the emergency brake.
The vehicle crashed into a gas station gas pump, but a fire was averted thanks to the quick actions of gas station staff and Victoria firefighters. The gas pump also has safety measures to prevent a fire.
The man was taken to hospital for medical treatment.
