March killing in Victoria: Man arrested in Maple Ridge, charged

A 26-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Joseph Gauthier following a confrontation on Hillside Avenue in March.

A 26-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Joseph Gauthier following a confrontation on Hillside Avenue in March. Daniel Forrest Creagh of Victoria was arrested Sunday morning in Maple Ridge following his release from custody on another matter.

Investigators with the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit made the arrest with the assistance of Ridge Meadows RCMP.

Gauthier, 35, died after a confrontation in the 1400-block of Hillside Avenue just before 5 a.m. on March 10. A father of four, he was well-known in the football community and his family said he loved watching his 13-year-old son, Joey, play for the Saanich Wolverines.

The police have never released a cause of death.
