Nanaimo council has voted in favour of sending a proposal to return to three-year terms to the Union of B.C. Municipalities convention being held Sept. 25 to 29 at the Vancouver Convention Centre.
Local government officials began serving four-year terms in 2014.
Nanaimo Coun. Diane Brennan won support at this week’s council meeting for her motion to ask for a return to three year terms.
Some councillors who voted in favour did not necessarily favour the shorter term, but agreed to support the motion in order to have a discussion among B.C. municipalities.
