Music fans in B.C. like Bryan Adams and dislike Justin Bieber, according to a recent poll.

Insights West released data on Thursday from two online studies, which returned nearly 2,000 results. Those surveyed were asked to rate 85 Canadian groups or performers, in addition to the manner in which they consume music.

Adams was the runaway winner in the popularity vote, with 82 per cent of those polled saying they like the Summer of ’69 hitmaker. Bieber drew the most scorn, with 58 per cent saying they dislike the Sorry singer.

Sarah McLachlan, Barenaked Ladies and Michael Bublé were behind Adams on the like list, while Céline Dion, Nickelback and Avril Lavigne joined Bieber in the dislike category.

Nelly Furtado, who appeared on the like list, was the only Victoria artist to appear on the poll results.

The survey also revealed how B.C. music fans consume music in the modern era.

Listeners ages 18-34 favour digital over everything else. Seventy-two per cent of that demographic have listened to a music-streaming service in the past month, while 83 per cent have used YouTube or a similar website during the same period.

Sixty-six per cent of those 55 and older have never used a streaming service.

Nearly half of those polled (48 per cent) have not bought an album — digital or hard copy — within the past year.

Vinyl records and cassette tapes are being played at home by nearly one-quarter of those polled, while three-quarters have music on CD that has not been converted to a digital format.
