Victoria police and the B.C. Coroners Service are investigating after a man’s body was found in the Inner Harbour just south of the Johnson Street Bridge.
Police were called to the bottom of Reeson Park near Yates and Wharf streets around 11 a.m. Thursday after a body was spotted in the water, said Victoria police spokesman Const. Mike Russell.
“We don’t know how long the body’s been in the water. That will form part of our investigation,” Russell said.
He said police and the coroner will work to identify the victim and cause of death.
Russell said police haven’t ruled out anything and continue to canvass for witnesses.
There were pieces of clothing and an indication of a homeless camp in the area, but police said it’s too early to say if the dead person was living there.
