Residents in the western part of the capital region can learn about what wastewater treatment might look like in their communities at a series of open houses beginning today.
Organizers are also seeking feedback.
The open houses are hosted by Westside Solutions, which represents Colwood, Esquimalt, Langford, View Royal and the Songhees First Nation.
“The upcoming open houses will help to inform and educate residents about the possibilities. We’re not yet proposing anything,” said Esquimalt Mayor Barb Desjardins, who co-chairs the committee with Colwood Mayor Carol Hamilton.
“We’re providing overview information about how wastewater is treated in general — what’s in wastewater, why treatment is important and what happens to treated water and treated solvents.”
The goal is to attract residents with all levels of knowledge about wastewater treatment, Hamilton said.
Open houses are scheduled for:
- Today, 5-7 p.m., at Colwood City Hall
- Jan. 20, 5-7 p.m., Langford City Hall
- Jan. 21, 5-7 p.m., Esquimalt Municipal Hall
- Jan. 22, 5-7 p.m., Songhees Nation Wellness Centre
- Jan. 29, 5-7 p.m., View Royal Town Hall
Westside Solutions is also seeking feedback at westsidesolutions.ca.
Victoria, Saanich and Oak Bay are moving to form a parallel committee on the east side of Greater Victoria. Although working separately, the sub-regional committees might ultimately choose to pursue a single treatment plan for the region, mayors on both sides have said.
