A 50-year-old woman and two dogs died early Wednesday after flames consumed a motorhome in a rural area outside Ucluelet.
Ucluelet RCMP received a 911 call just before 5 a.m. for reports of a fire on West Main Forest Road off Highway 4.
When officers arrived at 5:30 a.m., they found the burned-out shell of a motorhome.
The owner of the motorhome said he was outside when it suddenly burst into flames, said B.C. RCMP spokeswoman Sgt. Janelle Shoihet. The woman and two dogs were unable to escape and perished in the fire. Their remains were discovered by RCMP.
Police have not released the identity of the woman or the relationship between the woman and the man.
The Vancouver Island General Investigation Section and the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit are assisting Ucluelet RCMP with the investigation.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined but initial information suggests it’s not a criminal matter, Shoihet said.
Shoihet did not explain why the major crime unit, which typically investigates suspicious deaths and homicides, is involved.
