Re: “Leaked report warns of massive ICBC hikes,” July 23.
You really have to admire the depth of the hypocrisy of the B.C. Liberals in complaining about ICBC four days after the new government took office.
They have been in charge of the Crown corporation for 16 years. During that time they used it as their private slush fund to help “balance budgets” when there were no balanced budgets. When they needed money they raised the rates, even when the corporation did not need to do so. But it sure helped them fill in the gaps of their inept financing.
Last year, the then-president of ICBC gave a welcoming address to a new group of adjusters. At that time, he told those new employees that he expected that within four years, ICBC would go to a straight no-fault insurance company because of its poor finances.
Obviously, the Liberal government knew what was coming down the road. It managed to hide the report on this situation from the public by burying it where no one could see it.
Now, the corporation is faced with some difficult choices.
No matter which way it chooses, the Liberals will blame the NDP when in fact the blame lies squarely with them and their deceitful financing.
