Cyclists should have insurance, licence plates

Almost everyone is aware that the automobile is being phased out in its current mode and that is good. Electric cars and other transportation solutions are welcome and will come sooner rather than later.

The cyclist community represents very few, but it is growing; another good thing.

Unfortunately, some cyclists want the public, particularly the auto drivers, to fund everything for them and their minority.

Why is it that cyclists do not have to carry any liability insurance or even a simple licence plate that shows they have a safe bike and wear the proper gear required for riding?

The plate itself would go a long way in helping to deal with bicycle theft. I had to have one in my Ontario town 50 years ago.

And the insurance is something that cycling associations or coalitions could offer to riders through an arrangement with insurance companies.

There is no such thing as a free ride —unless you are a cyclist in the capital region.
