John Knops
Are you associated with or running as part of a slate? If so, which one?
No
Do you live in the municipality where you are running, and if so, for how long? If not, what is your connection to that community?
Yes. 3 years.
What is your occupation, and for how long?
Retired. 13 years.
Tell us about your previous elected and/or community experience.
Never been elected. You must be chosen by the President of the Political Party in the Yukon to be a candidate. I have sat on several society boards which is the way to do good works in the Yukon, rather than incorporate.
Why are you running? What’s your motivation?
I can use the money. Pension income rises at 2% during the past 10 years of inflation. Grocery prices have doubled in the past 4 years on most items. Restaurant meals, except for McDonalds, A&W and Tim Hortons, have almost doubled.
What are your top three issues?
I don’t understand the question. Unless you mean why is Route 14 treated as a country village road and not an important road by the Province.
What’s your vision for your community in 25 years?
If I could answer that, I would have been a billionaire and not involved in being a Mayor for a small town.
What’s one “big idea” you have for your community?
The community has to decide on that one by all the people. If the people don’t want certain things then so be it until the next generation changes it. Communities are creature of evolution, slowly changing as the world changes and evolves.
