EDMONTON — Alberta cabinet minister Jason Nixon says he will be taking some time to focus on family after his two youngest children were involved in a car crash.
Nixon, in a social media statement from him and wife, Tiffany, says his twins Austin and Chyanne were injured in a crash Friday.
He says Chyanne sustained no major injuries and is recovering, but Austin is in critical but stable condition.
Nixon says he will continue in his role as minister for seniors, community and social services, but says fellow cabinet minister Dan Williams will be assisting him for now to make sure the work gets done.
Nixon is the United Conservative member for the central Alberta constituency of Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre.
He is in his third term in the legislature after first winning a seat in 2015.
Nixon, in his statement, lauded the work of rescue crews and medical workers.
“We would like to thank every volunteer firefighter, first responder, STARS member and medical professional who attended the accident and got our children to the help they needed,” wrote Nixon in the statement issued Monday.
“We also thank the incredible medical team who are working around the clock to support Austin.
“We would like to thank all of our colleagues, our community, friends and family for their incredible support as we navigate this difficult time as a family.”
