Island Health has warned of a possible COVID-19 exposure at a Courtenay restaurant, as well as additional exposure dates at a high school in Nanaimo.
The health authority is notifying anyone who was in Browns Socialhouse, at 1661 Cliffe Ave. in Courtenay, on Nov. 3 between 3 and 4 p.m. and Nov. 5 between 3 and 4 p.m. that they might have been exposed to the virus.
The exposure periods are believed to be low risk for transmission, Island Health said.
“Out of an abundance of caution,” Island Health is asking anyone at the restaurant during the identified times to monitor themselves for symptoms such as fever, chills, new or worsening cough, shortness of breath, sore throat and loss of sense of taste or smell. If you develop symptoms, self-isolate and book a test by calling 1-844-901-8442 between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Public-health officials have identified and contacted anyone deemed a close contact, meaning face-to-face contact for an extended period of time with a person who is infectious, and told them to self-isolate. Anyone who has not been contacted does not have a high risk of exposure, Island Health said.
School District 68 in Nanaimo has warned of exposure dates at John Barsby Secondary on Nov. 9 and 10, in addition to an exposure at the high school on Nov. 5 and 6.
The school district said the Barsby exposures are now considered a cluster, and Island Health has completed contact-tracing.
