The CEO of Pacific Opera Victoria has accepted a position as general director of Opera de Montreal.

Patrick Corrigan begins his new job in September.

“Montreal’s my hometown and French is my first language. It’s such an exciting company. It’s a very special opportunity that’s come up with that company,” he said Wednesday.

Corrigan said he’ll leave POV in good financial shape with no deficit. Budgets for the past two seasons were balanced and “this year’s looking great.”

The POV board will meet this week to discuss the search for a new CEO.

Corrigan joined Pacific Opera Victoria in 2000 as director of marketing and development. He held that position until 2010, when he was appointed executive director and then CEO.

“Patrick helped build an incredibly strong organization and team, and the company is well positioned for continued growth,” said Bob Milne, POV board president, in a statement.

Pacific Opera Victoria is co-producing a new opera, Les Feluettes, with Opera de Montreal. The production, already staged in Montreal, will come here in April.
