PYEONGCHANG, Korea, Republic Of — What Canada Did on Monday at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games (distances in metres unless specified):

BOBSLEIGH

Men’s two-seater — Justin Kripps, Summerland, B.C., and Alex Kopacz, London, Ont., finished in a virtual tie with a German sled for the gold medal after compiling a time of three minutes, 16.86 seconds for the four runs; Nick Poloniato, Hamilton, and Jesse Lumsden, Burlington, Ont., placed seventh (3:17.74); and Chris Spring, Priddis, Alta., and Lascelles Brown, Calgary, ended up in 10th place (3:18.24).

CURLING

Women — Rachel Homan, Ottawa, and her rink defeated Japan, 8-3. With three games remaining in the round-robin, their record is 3-3.

Men — Kevin Koe, Edmonton, lost 9-7 in an extra end to the United States. After opening the tournament 4-0, Canada has lost their last three matches and are tied for third place with Britain (4-3).

FIGURE SKATING

Ice dancing — Tessa Virtue, London Ont., and Scott Moir, Ilderton, Ont., posted the top score in the short program with 83.67 points; Kaitlyn Weaver, Toronto, and Andrew Poje, Waterloo, Ont., stand eighth (74.33); Piper Gilles, Toronto, and Paul Poirier, Unionville, Ont., are a spot behind in ninth — all advance to Tuesday’s free skate.

FREESTYLE SKIING

Women’s halfpipe — Cassie Sharpe of Comox, B.C., was the top qualifier with a run of 93.40 points; Rosalind Groenewoud, Calgary, was 11th (73.20) — both advance to the finals.

HOCKEY

Women — Jennifer Wakefield of Pickering, Ont., scored two goals and Shannon Szabados, Edmonton, stopped 14 shots to lead Canada to a 5-0 semifinal win over the Olympic Athletes from Russia. Canada hopes to capture their fifth-straight gold medal when they play the United States (Wednesday, 11:10 p.m. ET).

SNOWBOARDING

Women’s big air — Laurie Blouin, Stoneham, Que., ranked fourth in qualifying with a top mark of 92.25 points; Spencer O’Brien, Courtenay, B.C., was 11th (76.75) — both advance to the final; Brooke Voigt, Fort McMurray, Alta. (67.75), did not make the cut.

SPEEDSKATING

Long Track

Women’s team pursuit — Canada (Ivanie Blondin and Isabelle Weidemann, both Ottawa; Keri Morrison, Burlington, Ont.; Josie Morrison, Kamloops, B.C.) won their quarter-final over a German squad in a time of 3:00.01, and advance to Wednesday’s semifinal against Japan.

Men’s 500 — Alex Boisvert-Lacroix, Sherbrooke, Que., finished in 11th place (34.934 seconds); Gilmore Junio, Calgary, was 17th (35.158); Laurent Dubreuil of Levis, Que., 18th (35.16).
