A man is missing after a boating accident on Shuswap Lake near Sicamous.

Mounties were called to Shuswap Lake’s Hungry Cove just before 9 a.m. Sunday after reports a 45-foot vessel had struck something in Cinnemousun Narrows around 9:30 p.m. the night before.

One man was able to flag down help from passing vessels Sunday morning. He was taken to shore by house boaters and transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Another man, a 51-year-old from Alberta, is missing.

A search by the Sicamous RCMP, an RCMP Underwater Recovery Team, and Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue is under way. A police helicopter is also scouring the waters and the shore line for a trace of the man.

The boat has been recovered by police on the lake, a popular spot for house boaters and swimmers. Two dogs were found aboard the boat and are in good condition, said police.

Police said it is not clear what the boat had crashed into, but do not believe there is another vessel involved. An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
