Irish actor Jamie Dornan has been cast as the new Christian Grey for the film adaptation of erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey, which begins filming here Nov. 13. The 31-year-old, who is relatively unknown, has been the frontrunner choice since Charlie Hunnam backed out.

The former model knows Vancouver well: He recently played Sheriff Graham in locally shot Once Upon A Time. He has also starred in the British TV series The Fall.

The movie, which has been given the code name The Adventures of Max & Banks, shoots from Nov. 13 to Jan. 28, based at North Shore Studios. It will be directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson.

It’s one of six big-budget movies slated for Metro Vancouver in the coming months, including the new Warcraft movie, Conflagration. Production begins Jan. 1, with crew based at Canadian Motion Picture Park in Burnaby. The fantasy flick, based on the video game series, is rumoured to star Paula Patton and Colin Farrell, although the cast has not been confirmed.

Another blockbuster to note is Night at the Museum 3, starring Ben Stiller and Robin Williams (rumoured), which begins filming here Feb. 1.

The Interview — Seth Rogen’s new project, starring James Franco — has been popping up at locations throughout the city in recent weeks. They’ll be here until Dec. 20.

And Tomorrowland, starring George Clooney and Hugh Laurie, is filming around B.C. until Jan. 15.

Also, Step Up 5 will be here until Nov. 5.
