The price for gasoline dipped below a dollar a litre in Abbotsford this week as world gas prices continue to slump.

The downshift from four figure gas prompted some residents to post pictures of pump prices that had fallen a low as 98.9 cents at that city’s Costco by late Friday, according to gasbuddy.com.

Just six months ago, a litre of gas in Abbotsford was going for 142.8 cents, according to the website, where users can submit prices they see at stations.

Gas had also slumped this time a year ago, with prices hitting a low of around 115 cents but it had been about five years since drivers in that city had seen gas dip below a buck.

In Vancouver, where a regional gas tax adds 17 cents per litre, prices had not yet approached the dollar mark, but at 108.9 cents, it was still a relative bargain. A decade ago, gas in the city was going for 76 cents a litre.
