Prince George to let more snow stay on streets this year

Residential streets in Prince George will see a little more snow this winter.

Residential streets in Prince George will see a little more snow this winter.

During tonight's meeting, city council is set to approve an updated snow and ice control policy that will increase the accumulation level from 10 centimetres to 12 centimetres before plows come through neighbourhoods.

The change was triggered by the core services review process and approved by council in July with the intent of freeing up $180,000 to be "reallocated to other priority snow and ice control activities," said a report by operations superintendent Bill Gaal.

According to the report, the policy's goal is still to keep less than 50 millimetres of compacted snow on the ground.
