SURREY — Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts says RCMP have made significant progress in solving the murder of hockey mom Julie Paskall.

Watts says she can’t provide further details because she doesn’t want to compromise the investigation.

She says further information will be released as soon has homicide detectives can make an arrest and lay a charge.

Paskall died Dec. 31, two days after being attacked in the parking lot of a Surrey arena as she arrived to pick up her son from a hockey game.

The beating death of the 53-year-old mother highlighted growing concerns about safety in Surrey’s Newton neighbourhood.

Police stepped up patrols around the arena in the days following the death and several civic meetings were held to discuss better security around the community centre and nearby bus loop.
