SURREY — A three-year-old girl fell through the second-floor window of a Surrey home on Thursday night, and despite the hard landing on a concrete walkway, she suffered no serious injuries, according to a statement from the Surrey RCMP.

Police say the child was playing on the living room couch at about 8:30 p.m. when she pushed against the window which popped out the screen.

The girl fell out of the open window and landed on the garden and concrete walkway.

She was taken to hospital to be treated for a concussion and was released.

“This is an unfortunate accident that we see time and time again once the weather warms up in our region,” says Surrey RCMP Sgt. Drew Grainger.

“As a result we are reminding residents to please take the necessary precautions to ensure your family’s safety.

“Open screen windows provide an illusion of security and having furniture and play apparatus near these windows only compounds the problem and is a recipe for disaster.”

Last Saturday evening, a two-year-old boy was flown to B.C. Children’s Hospital after falling from a second-storey window of an Aldergrove home.

The toddler was not seriously injured.
