UBC’s student newspaper, The Ubyssey, is reporting that a fourth sexual assault occurred on campus this weekend, but it has yet to be reported to the police.

In a story on their website at ubyssey.ca, it is reported that a student was attacked early Saturday morning while walking on the Point Grey campus.

As of Sunday afternoon, the attack had not been reported to police.

The newspaper is not publishing the name of the student who was victimized, or their source of the information, but do say the sexual assault has been confirmed.

UBC vice-president of students Louise Cowin said she was aware of the Ubyssey article about a potential fourth victim and she encouraged that person or anyone who was a victim of any sexual assault to make a formal complaint.

Cowin said the university is sending out messages on electronic message boards to advise women not to walk alone. Women have been forming buddy systems so no one walks alone.

RCMP officials have urged women not to walk alone on campus after three late-night sexual attacks on women have been reported to police.

Police have said stopping the spree of attacks is a top priority for investigators.

Two of the three attacks have taken place in the West Mall area.

The last incident reported to police occurred Saturday in the 2500-block of West Mall, with the lone male suspect described as a Caucasian in his late 20s to early 30s. He is approximately 6-foot-2, with a thin build and short-cropped hair.

The previous attack was Oct. 13 and took place around 3:30 a.m. in the 2700-block Fairview Crescent. The assailant was again described as a Caucasian in his mid- to late-30s, about five-foot-10 with a medium build.

The other attack occurred around 2:45 a.m. Sept. 28 in the 6300-block Biological Sciences Road. The attacker was described as olive-skinned, mid- to late-20s and approximately 5-foot-eight, with a thin build.

There were also two incidents earlier this year which involved attackers groping women before fleeing. Those incidents occurred May 19 at 2:50 a.m. along Westbrook Mall near Thunderbird Road and April 19 at 10:35 p.m. on Larkin Road.
