One woman is dead following a Saturday night residential fire.

Human remains were found inside a home in the 5600 block of Leland Road after emergency crews spent five hours putting out flames that engulfed the structure and car out front.

The fire, called in by neighbours at 7 p.m., is said to have claimed the life of the sole female resident, who was seen about half an hour prior.

Due to the extent of the blaze, Prince George Fire Rescue crews were limited to attacking the flames from the outside.

The home and vehicle on the property are a total loss, said assistant chief John Heaslip, with damage estimated at about $200,000.

According to the RCMP, there is no indication that foul play was involved at this time and on Sunday the investigation was handed over to the BC Coroners Service.
