Two acclaimed radio personalities, Eleanor Wachtel and Gregor Craigie, will be taking the stage on September 15 for a fundraiser in support of Canada’s oldest synagogue.

Craigie, host of CBC Radio One’s On the Island, will be interviewing Wachtel at Congregation Emanu-El about her celebrated career helming the station’s premier literary program, Writers & Company.

Craigie and Wachtel will have a lot of rich material to talk about. During her 33-year tenure with the show, Wachtel spoke with a Who’s Who of outstanding authors, including Saul Bellow, Michael Ondaatje, Mordecai Richler, John le Carré and Kazuo Ishiguro.

“[Eleanor’s] sense of respect, her tact, her utter lack of obsequiousness . . . and her uncanny ability to ask difficult questions have endeared her to readers and listeners,” said Canadian writer Carol Shields, whose book, The Stone Diaries, won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 1995.

Craigie is both a renowned author and an expert interviewer in his own right. A journalist for over 25 years, his most recent book, Our Crumbling Foundation, takes a hard look at Canada’s housing crisis. It is a national best seller.

For lovers of great literature—and great interviewing—this is a not-to-be-missed event.
