There is still time to vote for the People’s Choice Award in the Victoria Residential Builders Association’s 2024 Construction Achievements and Renovations of Excellence Awards of Vancouver Island.
Voting is open until Sept. 15 at careawards.ca/peoples-choice-award-contest, with finalists’ projects on show at Hillside Shopping Centre until then.
Voters are entered to win a stay at Long Beach Lodge Resort, the 2002 CARE Awards Project of the Year.
Every year “hundreds and hundreds” of people vote for their favourite projects, Casey Edge, executive director of the Victoria Residential Builders Association, said Monday.
They can pick whatever type of project they like the best, whether that be a single-family house, a multi-family building, a commercial property or something else.
More than 200 finalists in various categories were chosen for this year’s CARE Awards by a panel of industry professionals, based on criteria including architectural design, quality of workmanship, creative use of space and energy efficiency.
Gold winners will be announced Sept. 27 at the CARE Awards gala in the Crystal Ballroom in the Fairmont Empress Hotel.
It’s the premier industry event highlighting projects ranging from family communities to waterfront dream homes, Edge said.
Gold winners will be displayed in a full-colour magazine distributed by the Times Colonist and available online at careawards.ca following the gala.
Mike Dalton, chair of the 2024 CARE Awards, said the finalists “showcase the latest in home building excellence for those considering a new home or renovation.”
New projects reflect the changing regulatory environment, new technology and greener systems, including more efficient heating and ventilation systems, high-tech solar systems, environmentally friendly rainwater management, use of natural materials and site selection that’s sensitive to the local ecosystem, Edge said.
The Victoria Residential Builders Association is a proponent of the Built Green program, an industry-driven initiative to encourage sustainable building practices, he said.
