Unionized workers at the Hotel Grand Pacific have reached a tentative agreement with their employer, one of the largest hotels in the region.
Unifor Local 114 represents about 150 workers in housekeeping, culinary, groundskeeping, serving, guest relations, maintenance and engineering at the Inner Harbour hotel.
The tentative deal was announced Tuesday morning by Jerry Dias, Unifor’s national president. But no details were provided. Hotel Grand Pacific workers wanted a new “pattern agreement” that had previously been signed by other hotel workers and their employers in the province.
Members will vote on the tentative contract on Friday.
This month, Local 114 members voted to strike if there was no deal. Their current contract expires on Sept. 1.
The union had promised job action on the busy Labour Day weekend.
“I’m very proud of the skill and tenacity shown by the bargaining committee,” Mario Santos, Unifor national representative, said in a statement. “This contract makes strong gains that our members deserve.”
