Construction activity on Vancouver Island climbed to $806.9 million in the first six months of this year, a 42 per cent jump over the same time period in 2017.
“We’ve had a very busy year so far, which is a sign of economic strength and an upswing in population growth,” said Rory Kulmala, Vancouver Island Construction Association chief executive officer, on Tuesday.
Total spending on Island residential construction reached $698.2 million, with non-residential construction making up the rest. The number of construction jobs rose by 8.6 per cent in the first half of this year. Victoria had the highest number of jobs with about 1,800.
