A family beach day at Cadboro Bay Festival
Take the whole family for a day at the beach at the Cadboro Bay Festival in Cadboro-Gyro Park, Sunday.
The theme for this year’s event is ocean sustainability and recreation — how we can contribute to the health of the ecosystem while still enjoying sailing, swimming, paddleboarding and more.
The festival promises a fun-filled day of music, food and fun family-themed activities. There will be craft stations, summer picnic games and local performers playing a mixture of light rock, Afrobeat and folk throughout the day.
Shop at local vendors or learn about marine wildlife at interactive booths.
Parking is limited. There will be a free bike valet, with a free shuttle bus operating continuously throughout the day between University of Victoria parking lot #5 and the main parking lot in the park.
Free admission. The event runs 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4 at Cadboro-Gyro Park, Sinclair Road.

A candlelit concert at Christ Church Cathedral
Bring a blanket and pillow and find a pew to stretch out on at Cathedral After Dark, a late-night candlelit concert at Christ Church Cathedral, Saturday, Aug. 3.
Listen to the atmospheric sounds of the Blackwood duo, which consists of bass clarinetist Jeff Reilly and pianist/organist Peter-Anthony Togni.
Blackwood’s mix of plainchant, improvisation and atmospheric soundscapes makes the performance more of a sensory experience than a concert, especially considering the music reverberating off the cathedral’s cavernous Gothic vaults.
“Every year, we welcome thousands of people through our doors for concerts,” said Donald Hunt, director of music at the cathedral. “But these offerings are rare and make for a special evening.”
People can grab a drink from the concession stand, claim a pew or find a clear space on the floor.
Admission by donation. The event starts at 9 p.m. Aug. 3 at Christ Church Cathedral, 930 Burdett Ave.

Enjoy food, culture and music at Latin Fest
Take a Zumba class, watch traditional dancing, enjoy Latin food and music at Viva! Victoria Latin Fest 2024, in Centennial Square, Aug. 3 and 4.
This is the fifth year of the two-day cultural event, which brings together Victoria’s growing Latino community, representing the cultural diversity of more than 22 countries in Latin America.
Performers include Mariachi Sin Frontera, the Ritmo Latino Dance Group, Valeria (a singer from Colombia), Ballet Folklorico of Victoria Fiesta Latina and Pablo Cardenas and the West Coast Cuban Orchestra.
There will be 15 food vendors, with authentic Latin-American food choices.
Free admission. The event runs noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday at Centennial Square, 1 Centennial Square.
