Celebrate the spooky season at Wicked Victoria
Wicked Victoria is a day-long free event on Sunday boasting a variety of family-friendly activities to celebrate the spooky season.
The popular 10th annual Thrifty Foods event takes over a three-block stretch of Government Street between Yates and Broughton Streets, starting at 10:30 a.m. Produced by the Greater Victoria Festival Society, and presented by CHEK TV, the event runs until 3:30 p.m. and offers crafts, costume contests — including one for pets — and curbside contributions from Government Street merchants and vendors.
Attendees will have the opportunity to trick or treat along Government Street, while being entertained by music and entertainment from Pixie, Fiesta Latina Day of the Dead, Stephanie Greaves, and Stages Dance, among others.

Open house at UVic’s Phoenix Theatre
Prospective students will have an opportunity Saturday to explore the Phoenix Theatre as part of an open house run by the University of Victoria’s theatre department.
I Want to be in Theatre! is set for Saturday at 11 a.m. and is free to attend. It runs until 3 p.m. and offers a complimentary pizza lunch, though registration is required. The information session will appeal to aspiring actors, directors, set designers, and stage technicians and their families as it gives a look inside the Phoenix Theatre, which is home to student productions staged each year by the theatre department.
Attendees will also have an opportunity to watch a live rehearsal of a scene from The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, which runs November 7-23 at the Phoenix Theatre.

Presentation on Emily Carr’s life and art
A presentation at Emily Carr House on Wednesday explores the life of one of Victoria’s greatest exports and how she applied the elements of art and principles of design to her paintings.
Emily Carr’s Life & Art, Trials & Triumphs is being held from noon until 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 30. The 90-minute presentation will use some of her most iconic works as a framework for discussion. Tickets are $27.96 from emilycarrchronicles.ca, and include complimentary coffee, tea and cookies. Lunch is not provided but guests are encouraged to bring food of their own.
