Two days after announcing Grammy Award winner Keith Urban as the headliner for Lake Cowichan’s 2024 Sunfest festival, organizers of the related Laketown Shakedown festival have announced No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani as the headliner for 2024.
Wideglide Entertainment, which produces both events at Lake Cowichan’s Laketown Ranch Music and Recreation Park, announced Stefani’s upcoming appearance shortly before her husband, country star Blake Shelton, took the stage as the headliner for the Sunfest country-music festival on Sunday night.
Stefani, a three-time Grammy winner, was present for Shelton’s set when the announcement was made, to an eruption from the audience.
She joined Shelton on stage for renditions of Nobody But You and Happy Anywhere, two No. 1 singles the couple have together.
“You’re welcome, Canada,” Shelton said, after Stefani exited the stage to a rapturous reception.
“That’ll be in the tabloids tomorrow, ‘Gwen leaves Blake in the middle of a concert.’ ”
It was a rare moment as the two superstars, who have been judges on the hit reality show, The Voice, juggle busy solo careers. The couple were spotted in Victoria in the afternoon Sunday, and reportedly travelled to Lake Cowichan with their family in tow.
“I can’t believe we had two bad-ass announcements in one weekend,” said Jordan Kiminski, 22, of Campbell River, who was in the audience. “I’ll be there for both.”
The 2024 Laketown Shakedown, a multi-genre music festival, will be held June 28 to 30, with Stefani performing on the final night.
Laketown Shakedown tickets go on sale Aug. 29 at 9 a.m. through laketownshakedown.com.
The next Sunfest is scheduled for Aug. 1-4, 2024.
