Sidney sculptor Fred Dobbs has been named to the cast of sand castle competition Race Against the Tide, which returns for its second season July 10 on CBC TV.

Dobbs, a World Sand Sculpting champion, is paired with Quebec’s Guy-Olivier Deveau on the show, which pits sand sculptors against each other on a beach in the Bay of Fundy, home to the world’s highest tide. Teams competing for the $10,000 prize have six hours in which to build their creation, before the ocean washes them away.

The 10-episode series, hosted by Toronto rapper Maestro Fresh Wes, also features contestants from Latvia, Germany, Netherlands, Mexico, Colombia, South Korea, and United States. Champion sand sculpturists Karen Fralich and Rusty Croft will serve as judges.

Episodes of Race Against the Tide will also air on streaming service CBC Gem.
