Splash raises about $71,000

The Victoria Symphony raised an estimated $71,000 at Symphony Splash on Sunday at the Inner Harbour.

The Victoria Symphony raised an estimated $71,000 at Symphony Splash on Sunday at the Inner Harbour.

The figure, which has not been finalized, represents a decrease from last year's haul of $78,000, said Bethany Wilson, a spokeswoman for the symphony.

Sunday's hot weather, she said, may have discouraged some people from attending the symphony's annual outdoor concert and fundraiser.

"We noticed it was definitely quieter during the afternoon than last year," said Wilson.

Victoria police reported the crowd of tens of thousands of people was well-behaved and caused no major trouble.

"Symphony Splash has always been a well-organized and fairly problemfree event," said Mike Tucker, a VicPD spokesman.
