SHAMATTAWA, Man. — Mounties say a search dog and drones are being used to look for a six-year-old boy who was last seen Wednesday on a remote First Nation in northeastern Manitoba.
Police say Johnson Redhead was at school on Shamattawa First Nation that morning but did not make it to class after attending a breakfast program.
RCMP say officers and community members have been combing through wooded areas, trails, roads and sheds looking for the boy.
They have been searching on foot and with all-terrain four-wheelers and other vehicles.
The Canadian Rangers are also aiding in the search.
RCMP say officers obtained video footage from the school in an attempt to determine which direction he may have gone or what happened before he left the property.
"This search has not stopped in intensity from the moment we received the report up to the present," Sgt. Mark Svaren said in a release Friday afternoon.
"I cannot stress enough how community involvement has been strong and steady from the moment it was realized that Johnson was missing."
Police say a helicopter is expected in the community as soon as the weather allows.
Additional officers from Thompson have been deployed to help with the search.
