Dog needed for short film

Has your dog got what it takes to join the ranks of Rin Tin Tin, Lassie and other four-legged movie stars? If you think so, and your canine companion is small and easy to lift and carry, potential stardom awaits.

If you think so, and your canine companion is small and easy to lift and carry, potential stardom awaits.

Producers Pat Ferns, Prudence Emery and actress Maxine Miller (Party of Five, Smallville) are on the lookout for a pooch to star opposite Miller and Matt Frewer (Max Headroom) in Hattie's Heist, a short film shooting in Oak Bay next spring.

Doggie auditions for the film being directed by Gail Harvey (The Republic of Doyle) will take place Saturday between 12: 30 and 3: 30 p.m. in Windsor Park Pavilion's Rotary Hall, 2451 Windsor Park Rd.

Candidates must have been trained to sit, stay and lie down and be willing to ride in the basket of a four-wheeled motor scooter, wear a disguise for a robbery and sit on a counter.

Barking on command would be an asset and the dog would have to be available for at least two shooting days.

The dog links an impoverished senior who becomes an international bank robber to a suitor in the comic caper.

Miller will head a panel of judges who will select five canine finalists to be posted on Facebook. Fans will be able to vote for their favorite canine star, with one dog a week eliminated over a period of five weeks.

The winning dog would receive an honorarium, a DVD and a film credit.
