WEST VANCOUVER — Search-and-rescue responders in West Vancouver have found a 33-year-old snowboarder who has been missing for more than two days.

North Shore Rescue said Tuesday night that they had found the man in a gully near the Sea-to-Sky Highway and were trying to find a way to get him out.

The Vancouver snowboarder got lost on Sunday morning in an out-of-bounds area near Cypress Bowl in West Vancouver, a popular ski destination.

But search efforts were hampered by poor weather and the risk of avalanches, and rescuers failed to find the man on Monday.

In fact, the last contact with him was Monday afternoon, when he turned off his phone to preserve its battery.

The rescue came at a critical time because Environment Canada had issued a snowfall warning for the region and the temperature was near the freezing point.
