Remembrance Day ceremonies
Victoria — Memorial at the Legislative Cenotaph, B.C. Parliament Buildings, 501 Belleville St., 10:45 a.m.
Afghanistan Memorial Service — A service will be held at the Afghan Memorial, at the corner of Quadra and Courtney streets in Victoria, beginning at 9:45 a.m.
Esquimalt — The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at Admirals Road and Esquimalt Road and end at the Cenotaph in Memorial Park, 1200 Esquimalt Rd. Royal Canadian Navy, Cadets, Royal Canadian Legion and Scouts Canada in attendance.
Oak Bay — Ceremony at the Oak Bay Cenotaph, 2800 Beach Dr., starts 10:55 a.m. In person and streamed online at lumeraevents.com/oakbayremembers
Saanich — Military parade begins at 10:45 a.m. with ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Cenotaph at Saanich Municipal Hall, 770 Vernon Ave.
Central Saanich — Ceremony will be held at HEL,HILEȻ Park in Brentwood Bay, 1209 Clarke Rd., 10:50 a.m.
Sidney — Parade from Mary Winspear Centre at 10:30 a.m. along Beacon Avenue and Second Street to Cenotaph at Sidney Town Hall, 2440 Sidney Ave. Service of Remembrance at 10:40 a.m.
Willis Point — Willis Point Community and Fire Hall, 6933 Willis Point Rd. 10:45-11:15 a.m., with refreshments afterward in the community hall.
Langford — A service will be held at the Cenotaph in Veterans Memorial Park, Veterans Memorial Parkway at Goldstream Avenue, 10:40 a.m.
Colwood — The 7th Juan de Fuca Scouts will march from John Stubbs School to the Colwood Cenotaph in the Garry Oak grove outside the Juan de Fuca arena for a small ceremony at about 10:45 a.m. with a moment of silence at 11 a.m.
Royal Roads University — The university, the Vancouver Island Ex-Cadet Club and CFB Esquimalt will hold a ceremony on the Castle Terrace Lawn, 2005 Sooke Rd., 10:40 a.m.
Sooke — March from Evergreen Mall to Sooke Cenotaph, 10:30 a.m. Ceremony commences 10:50 a.m. at the Cenotaph. Refreshments to follow at Sooke Legion, 6726 Eustace Rd.
Cobble Hill — A ceremony will be held at the Cobble Hill Cenotaph, 1475 Fisher Rd., at 10 a.m.
Chemainus — Chemainus Cenotaph, 9799 Willow St., Chemainus, 10:45 a.m.
Duncan — Duncan Cenotaph, Charles Hoey Park, 130 Canada Ave., 10:50 a.m. A fire siren will sound to mark the start of two minutes of silence at 11 a.m. No pets.
Lake Cowichan — Lake Cowichan Cenotaph, Stanley Road, Lake Cowichan., 11 a.m.
Nanaimo — The service will start at 10:30 a.m. at the Dallas Square Park Cenotaph, 85 Front St., Nanaimo. Cadets will stage a round-the-clock vigil at the Nanaimo Cenotaph beginning at 11 a.m. Nov. 10 through to the Remembrance Day services the following day.
Lantzville — Parade down Lantzville Road, followed by ceremony at Huddlestone Park. Following the ceremony there will be a gathering at the Lantzville Legion, 7225 Lantzville Rd.
Parksville — Ceremony at the Cenotaph, 100 Jensen Ave E., at 10:40 a.m.
Qualicum Beach — The Qualicum Beach Legion hosts a tribute at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre, 747 Jones St., starting at 10:30 a.m.
Bowser — Parade begins from the Magnolia Court parking lot at 10:45 a.m.; service at the Cenotaph (7035 West Island Highway) at 10:55. All are invited to the open house at the Bowser Legion following the service for lunch.
Cumberland — Parade on Dunsmuir Avenue starts at 10 a.m., ceremony at the Legion at 10:50 a.m., 2770 Dunsmuir Ave.
Courtenay — A ceremony will be held at the Jubilee Square Cenotaph at 4th and Cliffe Avenue, at 10:45 a.m.
Comox — Parade on Nordin Street begins at 10:30 a.m. with wreath-laying at the Comox Cenotaph at 10:45 a.m., followed by a flypast.
Campbell River — Spirit Square in Shoppers Row will host a ceremony beginning at 11 a.m.
Gold River — The Gold River Legion holds a ceremony at the Cenotaph at 405 Trumpeter Dr., 10 a.m.
Port McNeill — Ceremony at Triangle (Rotary) Park on Campbell Way, 10:30 a.m.
Port Alice — The Port Alice Legion, 821 Marine Dr., hosts a ceremony at 10:30 a.m.
Port Alberni — Ceremony will be held at 10:3o a.m. at the Glenwood Centre, 4480 Vimy St.
Tofino — Parade departs the fire hall at 10:45 a.m., with a service at the Cenotaph (331 Main St.) at 11 a.m. Reception and refreshments to follow.
Ucluelet — Parade starts at the Army Navy Air Force No. 293, for ceremony at 11 a.m. at 1708 Peninsula Rd. A complimentary community lunch at the Veterans Hall will follow the ceremony. All welcome.
Salt Spring Island — The ceremony will begin with a march from Evergreen Plaza at 10:30 a.m.; the formal ceremony will begin at 10:50 a.m. at the Cenotaph. After the ceremony, attendees can gather at the Legion Hall, 120 Blain Rd., for refreshments.
Pender Island — Parade to the Cenotaph leavees at 10:45 a.m. and arrives at 10:59 for the ceremony. There will be a service in the Legion hall, 1344 Mackinnon Rd., with guest speakers and refreshments.
Hornby Island — 10:30-11:30 a.m. at Sandpiper Meadows (Sandpiper Beach Community Park)
Denman Island — 10:40 a.m. at the Denman Activity Centre gym

District of Sooke Candle Lighting Service. Remembrance Day observances begin on Sunday, Nov. 10, with a candle-lighting service at 6 p.m. at the Cenotaph. This ceremony is an opportunity for residents to come together in quiet reflection and remembrance. Following the service, light refreshments will be served for youth at the SookeLegion, 6726 Eustace Rd.
Documentary films at Royal Roads. Following the Remembrance Day ceremony, professor Dr. Geoffrey Bird, lead of the War Heritage Research Initiative, will present two of his documentary films, Trees of Remembrance: ShelbourneMemorial Avenue and War Memorials and Their Makers: Messengers of Meaning. (Note films are not suitable for children younger than 13.) This 45-minute presentation will be held on the Quarterdeck in the Grant Building. The museum and exhibits, located in the lower level of Hatley Castle, will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Habitat Café will offer light refreshments for purchase from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Free admission, details at royalroads.ca/events/royal-roads-remembrance-day-service.

Remembrance Day Victoria Children’s Choir Performance. Monday, Nov. 11, 12:30-1 p.m. at the Royal B.C. Museum, 675 Belleville St., Victoria. Free.
Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Sites are open on Remembrance Day, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., with a historic weapons demonstration at 12:30 p.m.
The Freedom from War Coalition will join members of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) to observe Remembrance Day at noon at the main gate of Canadian Forces Maritime Experimental and Test Range at Nanoose Bay on Powder Point Road.
