The Saanich Pioneer Society’s Log Cabin Museum is reopening on Saturday with new exhibits following an 18-month restoration.

The non-profit society, dedicated to the preservation of the history of the Saanich Peninsula, closed the museum and archives in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, using the time to perform restoration work.

With local history exhibits now revamped, the museum will be open again Saturday, with local spinners and knitters on hand to demonstrate their craft.

On Sunday, the museum will also host its first Talk and Tea event of the year.

Donna Otto, who hosts the costume museum at Government House, will speak about the late Queen Elizabeth’s wardrobe, showcasing many of the outfits worn by the Queen over the years, along with background of the royal sites where they were displayed.

The museum is open to the public 1 to 4 p.m. every Saturday and available to groups at other times by appointment.

Admission for the Talk and Tea is $5 for members, $7.50 for non-members. The event starts at 2 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Log Cabin Museum, 7910 Polo Park Cres., Saanichton (in the park behind Thrifty Foods).
