Tango fest turns up heat this weekend

For hot music and hotter dancing, check out the fifth Victoria Tango Festival this weekend. The three-day event features a variety of tango music, from classic era to Nuevo and jazz tango. Duo Tangabrazo kicks off the festival 8 p.m.

For hot music and hotter dancing, check out the fifth Victoria Tango Festival this weekend. The three-day event features a variety of tango music, from classic era to Nuevo and jazz tango.

Duo Tangabrazo kicks off the festival 8 p.m. Friday at Hermann's Jazz Club, 753 View St. Tickets are $18 at the door.

The headline act is Quartango, which performs with professional tango dancers. They perform at 8 p.m. Saturday at Alix Goolden Hall, 907 Pandora Ave. Tickets are $30 at the door.

Outdoor concerts at Centennial Square are free. At noon Friday, listen to Pablo Diemecke's Deimaler String Quartet. Between 1 and 6:30 p.m. Sunday, take a tango dance class, listen to vocalist Jane Enkin with TrioTango, Yiddish and classic tango. There will also be Argentine food.

A wrap-up party features Anna Acevedo's Lyman's Quartet and pianist Carlos Cardenas at 8 p.m. Sunday at Hermann's. Tickets $12 at the door. For more information, go to passion4tango.com.
