Swan Lake Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary is a natural oasis in the middle of an urban environment. With its marshlands and Garry oak meadows, this sanctuary is home to a multitude of native plants and animals. Swan Lake relies on the dedication of its many volunteers, who help with site restoration, special events, administrative support, the board of directors and so much more. Currently, Swan Lake is initiating a special project with the New Horizons Seniors Crafting for Nature program. If you are a senior who loves quilting, knitting, or crocheting - and can create your art with a nature theme in mind - this is a great way to get involved, meet new friends and share your talents. Volunteers meet on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon at Saanich Silver Threads Les Passmore Centre, starting Sept. 6. All materials will be provided, but you are also welcome to bring crafts from home. Your work will be sold to raise funds for education and restoration projects at Swan Lake, so get involved today. Please call 250-479-0211.
