The Island Sexual Health Society is a non-profit agency that has served the Greater Victoria, Vancouver Island and Gulf Islands communities since 1969. ISHS was formerly a part of Planned Parenthood and became an independent society in 1986.

Through their sexual health clinics and education programs, Island Sexual Health Society is working toward a diverse community that celebrates healthy sexuality throughout life.

Currently, ISHS is seeking a doctor's assistant for their Fort Street location to support female clients and assist doctors during exams, as well as helping to maintain exam rooms. This is a long-term commitment with a minimum of six months; shifts are 3.5 hours, and volunteers may commit to either a weekly or bi-weekly schedule. Training will be provided, and volunteers will receive references at the end of their term. Community Garden Artist: The B.C. Housing Management Commission is calling all community-minded artists to help them develop artistic ways to identify individual garden boxes. This will be a short-term event. Call 250978-2918.

Senior Peer Counsellors: Seniors Serving Seniors is looking for volunteers to provide emotional support to seniors in loss, transition or lifestyle change.

Training begins Sept. 14 for this long-term commitment. Call 250-382-4331.

Communications Co-ordinator: Crystal Clear Drug Prevention is seeking a volunteer board member with a background in communications for a long-term commitment, one to two years for five to 10 hours per month. Training is provided. Call 250-589-1001.

Ultimate Frisbee Event: Victoria Ultimate Players Society is looking for volunteers to help out at the Canadian Ultimate Frisbee Championship. Sign up and choose from the many volunteer opportunities available.

Driver: Cats Cradle Animal Rescue is seeking drivers to deliver their cats to and from various veterinary clinics in the Sidney/Brentwood Bay area.

Training is provided for this flexible, long-term commitment.

Gardening Assistants: Point Ellice House is seeking volunteer gardeners to help maintain their gardens. This is a short-term opportunity for which training is provided and some flexibility may be possible. If you would like to gain experience in a heritage house garden, call 250-380-6506.

Website Maintenance and/or Blogger: The Young Parents Support Network is looking for a blogger to share ideas with young parents in the community on their fresh, new website. This is a flexible, short-term commitment, and other opportunities are available. Call 250-384-0552.
